These plants are easy to grow in soil that can sometimes be difficult, like the red clay we have here in York County. Additionally, the plants you choose should be able to withstand drought, as well as periods of standing water.
But there’s an even bigger benefit that you may not be aware of. Rain gardens are an excellent way to control stormwater runoff. Instead of water pooling up and flooding a yard, parking lot, or sidewalk, it can be diverted to a rain garden. The plants will receive water naturally and nearby areas will be kept free from standing water.
