- Choose your locations carefully. In the summertime, the afternoon sun can be brutal. In order to thrive, hostas need sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. Pick just the right spot to keep them happy and growing.
- Watch out for pests. Unlike many plants, insects aren’t a huge problem with hostas. Slugs are one of the most consistent culprits we’ve seen. However, deer and rabbits pose an even bigger threat. Create barriers or use repellents to keep them away.
- Water well. The more sun your plants receive, the more water they’ll need. About an inch per week is required if you don’t receive any rain. They’ll also need more water if lots of other plants, trees, or shrubs are nearby.
